Pet Partners

It happens more than a million times a year-in hospitals, schools, rehab centers, hospice and extended care facilities--across the country and around the world, the human/animal health connection--providing therapy, comfort, motivation, affection and inspiration, moment by moment, touch by touch.

At Redmond-Sisters Hospice we believe that pets often play an important role in promoting comfort and the sense of well-being that is so important in quality care. It is for that reason that we have incorporated a Pet Partners program whereby volunteers and their pets pay regular visits to our clients. Our volunteers and their pets work with both Hospice and Transitions clients.

We currently have three Pet Partners volunteers: Selina, Eloise and Karin. Selina has two dogs-Prints & Mingus. Selina and her dogs have been with us since the autumn of 2002. Eloise & her dog, Hasli, have been working with us since the spring of 2005. One of the especially fun contributions that Eloise and Hasli make is their weekend visit to Camp Sunrise, our once-a-year weekend bereavement camp for children. Eloise and Hasli are welcome additions to the camp and the kids love having them around - especially Hasli. Karin has two dogs, JJ & Tiny Jake. Karin recently began working with us and we look forward to her long-termparticipation. Pet Partners volunteers go through our Hospice volunteer training and are certified by the Delta Society. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a hospice Pet Partners volunteer, please call our volunteer coordinator for more information. Pet volunteers also decorate a tree at our annual fundraiser, Festival of Trees and help staff our booths at events. It's great fun and a wonderful way to involve your four-legged family members in contributing to the emotional well-being of Hospice and Transitions clients.
